The College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking an associate director for a new center for the collection and study of longitudinal data for the scientific studies of K-12 students, teachers and schools. This center is developed at the College of Education in partnership with the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan. The express mission of this Center will be to provide access to data for researchers engaging in high-quality, timely, relevant scholarship in support of education policy and policymakers.
The associate director will coordinate and participate in the activities of Center research, including:
- preparation of policy reports and oral briefings to state decision-makers and public readership
- work with MSU faculty and staff on the development of long-term research projects consistent with Center and state strategic research priorities
- work with MSU faculty, administrative and development staff to manage Center budget and secure long-term financial support from private philanthropies and public agencies
- collaboration with peers and lead faculty at the University of Michigan on joint activities and deliverables
The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in education or public policy, economics, sociology or other field. Strong quantitative and data management skills—including experience with Stata or similar statistical software—are required, as is interest in pursuing independent and collaborative policy-oriented research in the field of public education. Evidence of securing external research support is strongly preferred, as is experience collaborating with academic faculty and research staff and doctoral students. Offsetting or additional experience working with state educational agencies will be considered.
The associate director will enter as a research specialist on a fixed term 12-month appointment for one year, with the option of annual renewal after the initial appointment.
