Specialist - Outreach-Fixed Term - College Of Education at Michigan State University

The Department of Educational Administration at the College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking a Specialist-Outreach, also known as the working title Associate Director, for the MSU Education Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC), a new policy lab dedicated to the analysis of longitudinal data for the scientific studies of K-12 students, teachers and schools. EPIC is part of a new partnership between the College of Education, the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan. The express mission of this partnership will be to provide policymakers and education stakeholders, especially in but not limited to the state of Michigan, with high-quality, timely, and relevant scholarship in support of education policy and programs. The associate director will enter as a Specialist-Outreach on a fixed term 12-month appointment for one year, with the option of annual renewal after the initial appointment.

This position will coordinate and participate in the activities of Center research and operations, including:

  • preparation of policy reports and oral briefings to state decision-makers and public readership
  • work with MSU faculty and staff on the development of long-term research projects consistent with Center and state strategic research priorities
  • work with MSU faculty, administrative and development staff to manage Center budget and secure long-term financial support from private philanthropies and public agencies
  • engage with state and district partners to help formulate joint research agendas intended to further evidence-based decision-making

Required Degree


Minimum Requirements

A Masters degree, PhD or EdD in education or public policy, economics, sociology or other field. Strong quantitative and data management skills - including experience with Stata or similar statistical software. Expressed interest in the production of policy-oriented research in the field of public education. Experience managing teams. Experience engaging with policymakers and education stakeholders. Strong writing and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

Minimum qualifications and evidence of securing external research support, and experience collaborating with academic faculty and research staff and doctoral students. Experience working with state educational agencies.
