Education Policy Researcher, Higher Education
RAND is seeking applicants at all levels of experience for education policy research positions with a focus on post-secondary education. Researchers at RAND work on collaborative research teams to solve real-world problems, producing objective, scientific analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports to guide policymakers on a diverse set of issues. These diverse, multidisciplinary teams include policy researchers, economists, psychologists, statisticians, social scientists, and others with relevant training. Researchers apply rigorous, empirical research designs to analyze education policy issues and evaluate programs.
Staff are encouraged to collaborate on projects across various research topics including education, labor, health, social and economic well-being, national security, and homeland security.
All successful applicants will have demonstrated qualitative and/or quantitative skills, strong analytic skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, an interest in building an education policy research portfolio, the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity, and intellectual curiosity and motivation to work on addressing critical policy challenges. Successful senior applicants will have the ability to conceptualize research studies and lead and direct multi-disciplinary teams, along with experience mentoring and developing junior staff, setting project standards and monitoring progress, and communicating results to the RAND community as well as to policy-making audiences. A record of peer-reviewed publications and funding consistent with experience is expected. Experience in conducting applied and policy-oriented research is preferred. Experience in implementation and/or evaluation also valued.
PhD in higher and/or post-secondary education, education policy, public policy, sociology, psychology, and/or related fields (you may also apply if you are at the dissertation stage and expect to complete your PhD within 12 months).
Training in and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative methods is required. A record of peer-reviewed publications and funding consistent with experience is expected. Experience in conducting applied and policy-oriented research is preferred. Experience in implementing and/or evaluation also valued.
