About This Role:

The College of Education at Kansas State University invites applications for a two (2) year Postdoctoral Research Associate position in quantitative research funded directly by an NSF grant. The Research Associate will work with Professors Tuan D. Nguyen and J. Cameron Anglum on a project examining the STEM teacher workforce using national data as well as state-specific data. This project endeavors to shed light on the evolution of the STEM teacher labor force and the factors that influence STEM teacher turnover, analyses crucial to inform actionable recruitment and retention practices, particularly in high-needs school contexts. Employing quantitative methods, we will explore broader patterns within labor markets for STEM teachers and some of the mechanisms that may explain these patterns.

Project responsibilities may include preparation of administrative datasets, analysis of administrative data using quantitative methods, coordination of project-related activities, writing of project findings for scholarly publications and policy briefs, and assistance with research grant development. The scope of the responsibilities may depend on the research associate’s qualifications.

Depending on applicant qualifications, additional research and publication opportunities may also be provided. Teaching opportunities may also be possible if the candidate is interested. Time reserved for the Research Associate to advance their own scholarship will also be provided. Drs. Nguyen and Anglum will also provide additional training and opportunities as necessary. Under the supervision and mentorship of Drs. Nguyen and Anglum, the postdoctoral researcher will advance their training in STEM teacher education, teacher labor markets, and quantitative methods. The approximate breakdown of the research associate’s time allocation will be 50% on data preparation, analysis, and writing, 25% on new project development/teaching, and 25% on self-directed scholarship.

The position is a full-time, two-year contract position. The ideal start date is June 1, 2023, but is somewhat flexible.
